Fab-Homes Intros Passive House Prefabs

Yesterday, a new green home design studio called Fab-Homes launched a collection of pre-designed Passive Houses for the North American market. The Vancouver-based company designed the homes to consume up to 90% less energy for heating, cooling, and operations. The actual Passive House standard will be the goal, although these homes won't necessarily be required to satisfy the standard's rigorous efficiency requirements.

Fab-Homes' designs are undeniably contemporary and somewhat approachable in pricing terms. Depending on the location, floor plan, and the design package, Fab-Homes anticipates that construction costs will start at about $155 per square foot.
Planned green building options include a heat recovery ventilation system, triple glazed windows, rainwater harvesting, a gray water recycling system, solar photovoltaics, solar hot water panels, geothermal energy baskets, green roof gardens, and the use of green, renewable, and low-VOC materials throughout.
Fab-Homes has several packed models that will, in the near future, be available as prefabs. Fab-Homes will also have town home and multifamily versions available in the late Spring.
