In terms of concept, the casa nogales sprang from a proposal to create an inhabitable architectural space through the juxtaposition of continuous lines forming a structure composed of two bodies in primary finishes; one more discreet, in white, and another, principal body in exposed concrete.

The key body that brings the architectural project together is the foremost volume, built of reinforced concrete that has been left entirely exposed. It is one that initiates a discourse, being an encompassing element in the social and service areas, its line first rising along the kitchen wall to reach the height of the second floor ceiling, providing shelter to the communal and leisure area.

At this point, the interaction of different heights draws the attention of wandering eyes through an interplay of frosted glass that encloses the area on the second floor where those living here come and go. The line of this concrete body then continues downwards as it seeks to form a foundation for that intimate area—the bedrooms—housed within a compartment swathed in wood that highlights its presence, then flows smoothly down along the concrete base to form a pronounced overhang over the pool.

The application of concrete aims to give an uneven texture by using 4″ irregular strips of wood with a special feature: certain panels placed in high relief so as to cast shadows from the lighting, and thus accentuate the authenticity of the material. With this process of modulation, the entire main body of the project comes together both inside and out.
