The Japanese Immigration Memorial is part of Pampulha, the landmark of Belo Horizonte modernist architecture and it is held at the ecological park Promotor Francisco Lins do Rêgo. The building is a Monument-Museum to friendship between Japan and the state of Minas Gerais. This beautiful relation was metamorphosed in this construction.

Still speaking in metaphor the project can be considered as a bridge over a lake where the bridge units territories, times, ideas and ideals and the lake separates the countries. The curved walls of the building represent the two flags the red circle and triangle and in the same time the continuous movement and interdependence that makes this relation stronger.

Including only simple, pure lines the curved building with its solid structure gives the feeling of safety, unity and harmony. The union becomes richer thinking about the ethnic mix that includes cuisine, poetry, music, fashion.

Gustavo Penna and Associates had the brilliant idea to reveal all those important concepts in such a simple design. Japanese Immigration Memorial is the project that strongly represents the relation between Japan and Minas Gerais.
