The restaurant is located on the top floor of a superstore in the new town area of Hangzhou, with 9-meter high story height and a broad view to the south. Composite bamboo boards are selected as the main material, conveying the design theme of combining tradition and modernity.

The sinuous lines of the surfaces of the display units flow inside the display space, which revolves around a central fulcrum, the ‘atom’, consisting of an open, permeable, circular element defined solely by its ‘skeleton’, solid but ethereal as the material it is made from, HI-MACS.

For the first store we designed for Via Venetto, a 30-year old shoe retail store, the brief was to give it a new contemporary image to recapture its market. The dilemna that was initially faced was that it has long established a great reputation in the retail scene, and so veering to far from its original look could alter the market’s perception of it for the worst. We therefore tried to find a balance between maintaining some of its characteristics and infusing them with newer, more contemporary forms.

During Milan Design Week 2010, the Corian design store featured the “Smart-ologic Corian Living” exhibition that was designed by Karim Rashid.
The exhibition featured soft organic shapes realised through a morphic material to create a sensual living environment, a space that echoes the digital techno-organic world we live in, evoking an alternative way of experiencing the home environment.
