The 68,000 spectators Green Point Stadium designed by gmp architekten, is one of the major stadiums to host the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. With its horizontal facade expression and the curving contours, the architectural design was intended to enhance the horizontal line of Table Mountain, and appeared as an iconic building in Cape Town.

For the 2010 World Cup, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium by gmp architekten is a 46,000 seater stadium situated on South Africa’s south-east coastline, Port Elizabeth. The stadium has an eye-catching, unique roof structure and a spectacular view, overlooking the North End Lake.

In Durban, South Africa, the 70,000-seater Moses Mabhida Stadium by gmp architekten has an unique architectural feature inspired by the South African flag. With its grand arch design, the two legs of the arch on the southern side of the stadium come together to form a single footing on the northern side, symbolizing the new unity of a once-divided country. The 70,000-seater has been specifically designed as a multi-purpose venue not only meets FIFA requirements but can also host the Commonwealth Games or Olympic Games. The number will be reduced to 56,000, but can be temporarily increased to as many as 85,000 for major events.
