Accessible only by boat, Formodesign’s House On The Water, is a brilliant concept relying on the sea and the sun’s rays to to fullfil its energy and water requirements. Located off the coast of Greece’s Zante Island , this concept home was conceived as a single family rental unit and is positioned so as to maximize its use of
solar energy.

Its architecture has been interpreted through many of the same concepts applied to yachts and luxury cruisers. Bold decisions influenced the structures unique proportions that are reminicent of both a sailing vessel, and of a whale’s tail.

For this project a concrete counterweight foot stabilizer with a
sea bed pile system makes up the central core. The home itself whose exterior was achieved by using
Corian, is made from concrete and steel. The upper volume is cantilevered creating a magnificent silhouette amidst the seascape. At water level a dock floats and adjusts according to the tidal schedule. It is from here that guests access a stairway leading into the bright and minimal space where an inner garden provides a “land factor”.

Systems for desalination, energy accumulation, ventilation, water recycling, heat and energy consumption, as well as shading are all part of this eco-friendly House On The Water.
