This small house for a family of four is an attempt to create a spatial lightness whilst providing essential intimacy to this dwelling. All materials including walls, floors and ceilings are treated in a minimalist way with importance given to light, space, materiality, views and presence.

The villa’s minimal aesthetic is formed using sheer walls of concrete which allow for the large open spaces created within. Horizontal structural elements are kept to a minimum integrated as walkways or shading devices. Intelligent engineering gives the staircases strength whilst appearing delicate and light.

Rich color and texture are translated in materials like slate and finishes complements the clean white walls which capture the light as patterns of shade which vary throughout the day. By night the large openings fill the private courtyards with light from inside the building as a beacon fading the lines between inside and out.

The essential volume is penetrated with openings that reflect the orientation and spaces within to provide cool shaded spaces to protect from the sun whilst large framed fenestration open up the house to sky views and quiet internal garden space. Feature details such as the steel cantilevered stair provide vistas to the outside a skeletal form framed by the large double height window opening rests gently on the textured floor of rugged dark stone flooring. The elemental landscaping provides a simple discreet landscape to add a touch of color to the external envelope.
