New Orleans Blueprints by Brad Pitt Architecture Foundation

The idea of reconstructing 150 houses after Hurricane Katrina was both challenging and difficult at the same time. However Brad Pitt (yes, THAT Brad Pitt) teamed with 14 architecture companies and decided to put their contributions by working on the Make It Right (MIR) project to release 14 new home designs at New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward. Working together with a ‘green’ design expert, William McDonough, MIR Project serves New Orleans’s public needs by harmonizing natural and modern contemporary architecture.

Those designs were all innovative in their own way, all conveying a sustainable way of living. Thom Mayne designed a house that would float during floods. James Timberlake designed a house with vines climbing up its walls to provide the house with breezy shade. “Talk to the people who’ve lived there and have raised their kids there. People are needing to get back in their homes,” Pitt said. – via
