Vertical Theatrics: The mechanistic tower of REX/OMA’s Wyly Theatre enhances the flexibility of the performance along with connection to the world outside 
With its rippling aluminum facade and crisp cubic form, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre is an edgy presence in Dallas’s refined brick-and-stone Arts District. Corners peel back to expose massive X braces; floors cantilever at gravity-defying angles. Instead of flowing out like a traditional theater, with the stage in the center and support spaces to the sides, the Wyly pushes up, nine stories, with the lobby in the basement, the stage on the street, and rehearsal studio, costume shop, offices, and classrooms snapped together above like a transformer. The “vertical city” meets the Texas prairie. 

OMA wins competition for the Beaux Arts Museum in Quebec expansion

OMA has been announced as the winner of the international competition for the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ) expansion. The CAD$90 million project was also consulted with local residents, with an 82% of approval.

OMA reveals their winning design for new library in Caen, France

Eco Factor: New library utilizes sustainable design approach to ensure energy efficiency.

Adding another win to their long list of commissions obtained for spectacular public spaces this year, the renowned architectural firm OMA revealed their winning design for the Bibliothèque Multimédia à Vocation Régionale, a new library in Caen, France. The 12,000sqm building incorporates a sustainable design approach that responds to local climatic conditions to ensure energy efficiency.



Apart from the energy efficient systems, the building also includes shallow floor plans that maximize available natural light. It opens opening up to a park, pedestrian pathway and waterfront plaza, creating a beautiful interaction with the surrounding. Large windows not only bring in ample of natural light, but also offer transparency and stunning views.



Located at the tip of Caen’s peninsula, this incredible structure features four protruding wings that point towards four of the city’s landmarks - the abbeys Abbaye-aux-Dames in the north, Abbaye-aux-Hommes in the east, the central train station to the south and the site of proposed future developments in the west. The library consists of two intersecting reading rooms, which encourage maximum interface between various programmed disciplines. The Caen’s library is OMA’s first cultural building in France.
