Danish practice Henning Larsen Architects and the consortium consisting of the architecture companies Friis & Moltke and Brunsgaard & Laursen, the engineering companies NNE Pharmaplan and Orbicon Leif Hansen, the consulting company Norconsult and landscape architects SLA have won the competition for the extension of Herlev Hospital, just outside of Copenhagen.

International architecture practice HKS shared their proposal for the Suzhou Children’s Hospital Competition in China. The program includes a 94,800 sqm children’s hospital with 600 beds in the initial phase including over 7,000 sqm for outpatient clinics, 14 OR’s, a full service emergency department, imaging, and required support.

A new center offers cancer patients a peaceful place for care other institutions
cannot provide

In 1988, an extraordinary Scottish woman named Maggie Keswick Jencks was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was a mother, a scholar who wrote and lectured about Chinese landscape gardening, a world traveler, and the wife of designer and critic Charles Jencks, not to mention an accomplished landscape designer in her own right. After surgery, and a five-year period of remission, the cancer returned. This time an aggressive strain attacked her bones, bone marrow, and liver. Maggie was also outgoing, articulate, and an often-published writer who was willing to try an extraordinary range of treatments and strategies as she fought for her life. She won a second period of remission, but finally succumbed to her disease in 1995.

The new project for the Provincial Hospital in Klagenfurt is innovative in many ways. The latest Medical Technology along with an enhanced cross-utilization of medical equipment and facilities (operating rooms, examination and treatment rooms and wards in the logistics field) give this new hospital a pioneering status in Europe.
